World of Warcraft: Recurring Nightmares
Description: The draenei are former members of the eredar race who fled their homeworld of Argus rather than submitting to the corruption of the Burning Legion. They were assisted by the naaru, a race of sentient energy beings who blessed the draenei race with Light-given knowledge and power. Heroes of the draenei stand as bastions of Light and purity, masters of arcane magic, intent on defending the world from the horrors of the Burning Legion.
Appearance: Draenei skin tones can range from deep rich blue to a near milky-indigo. Males often have tendrils coming out of their chin and a fan-like forehead plate which rises and overlaps other forehead plates behind it. Male draenei have large tails which are held erect by developed muscle structure.
The female of the species exhibits marked differences: rather than the forehead plates featured on the male, they have vaguely horn-shaped cranial extensions that extend over the upper cranium and end on either side of the crown. Female cranial tendrils sprout behind the ear and are typically long enough to reach the shoulders. Their tendrils are thinner than the male’s. Female draenei tails are shorter and have a lower muscle density.
In both genders, the hooves are relatively large, in contrast to the more compacted hooves of their demonic counterparts.
Faith: As a people, the draenei have devoted themselves to preparing for the day when they will join the Army of the Light, when they will finally take the fight back to the Burning Legion and atone for the sins of their man’ari brethren. Because of this, and their special relationship with the naaru, draenei place a high importance on the study and guidance of the Light.
In spite of this cultural upbringing a few draenei have started to follow the path of the shamanism under the guidance of Farseer Nobundo.
Names: Draenei names often seem harsh and alien to the inhabitants of Azeroth. Although it is not unheard of for a draenei to take a surname, the practice itself is foreign to draenei culture.
- Male Names: Aeun, Caalen, Izam, Killac, Maladaar, Orelis, Sedai, Taluun, Vedaar.
- Female Names: Avelii, Ellomin , Ishanah, Mura, Nancila , Remetaa, Shaani, Valaatu, Yrel.
+2 Intellect, +2 Wisdom, +2 Charisma, -2 Dexterity: Draenei are a generally peaceable and have extensive knowledge of both the arcane and the Light, but their large size tends to make them slow.
Medium: Draenei are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Normal Speed: Draenei have a base speed of 30 feet.
Army of the Light: Draenei gain a +1 racial bonus on attack rolls against creatures with the demonic subtype.
Gemcutting: Draenei gain a +2 racial bonus on Craft (jewelry) checks and Appraise checks related to gemstones.
Gift of the Naaru (Sp): Once per day a draenei may cast Cure Light Wounds as a spell-like ability, with a caster level equal to the user’s character level.
Heroic Presence (Sp): Once per day a draenei may can cast Heroism as a spell-like ability, with a caster level equal to the user’s character level.
Memories of Draenor (Ex): Draenei gain a +2 dodge bonus against orcs a +2 racial bonus on combat maneuver checks made to grapple orcs.
Shadow Resistance (Ex): Draenei gain spell resistance equal to 6 + their character level against spells and spell-like abilities with the evil descriptor, as well as any spells and spell-like abilities cast by evil outsiders.
Languages: Draenei begin play speaking Common and Eredun. Furthermore, draenei with high Intelligence scores can learn: Darnassian, Dwarven, Gnomish, Goblin, Orcish, and Ursine.
Favoured Classes: Alchemist, Barbarian, Bard, Cavalier, Cleric, Fighter, Monk, Oracle, Paladin, Ranger, Wizard.
