World of Warcraft: Recurring Nightmares
Description: The trolls have a proud history of civilization, and shamanistic worship of the “loa,” or spirits. Their individual loyalties generally lie with their tribes-the exceptions are the Darkspear, Shatterspear, and Revantusk tribes, who are allies or friends of the Horde. These tribes loyally uphold their union with the Horde and may engage in open warfare with other trolls, particularly some of their more aggressive cousins.
Appearance: Darkspear trolls have skin colors that range from pale, ghostly blue to bruised purple, and sickly green. Their skin color is usually just one of those three colors, although sometimes there are trolls with mixed skin pigments but this is not so common. Trolls’ hair is usually brightly coloured, ranging from vibrant purple to deep green. Hair is usually grown long by both males and females, and often styled in a striking arrangement.
Trolls have large, long ears often pierced with rings, and long, pointed noses, with both of these feature more pronounced in males. Male trolls are extremely tall, but tend to stand hunched over, hiding their true height, and are of a lithe and slender build, possessing no excess fat, with long limbs and faces. They have long, protruding tusks that grow from under their lower lip. Female trolls, while far shorter, stand up straighter and more erect, possess far smaller and shorter tusks, and usually have hair in a wild updo or strewn across their breasts in thick braids.
Faith: The Darkspear trolls come from a dark and bloodthirsty history of sacrifice, cannibalism and black magic. Like the other races of trolls they hold belief in the loa, a countless pantheon of often greedy, hostile and dangerous spirits. Of particular reverence to the Darkspear are the spirits of serpents and reptiles, and the loa Bwonsamdi, the Guardian of the Dead.
Names: Troll youth do not receive public names until they have earned a name in battle, and when they do the names are usually of one syllable, to facilitate the addition titles in the form of prefixes or suffixes. Noteworthy prefixes include Zul (describing a voodoo master, but sometimes used to denote greatness), Zufli (literally “baby witch”, used as a derogatory term for female witch doctors), Zen (denoting a druid), and Zin (meaning destroyer). The suffix jin refers to a tribal chief or elder.
- Male Names: Vol, Ros, Gal, Mig, Kaz.
- Female Names: Shi, Mith, Bwem, Hai, So.
+2 Dexteriy, -2 Intelligence, -2 Charisma: Trolls are wiry and quick, but their primitive culture has not allowed for much mental stimulation.
Medium: Trolls are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Normal Speed: Trolls have a base speed of 30 feet.
Beast Slaying: Trolls gain a +2 racial bonus on attack rolls against creatures of the animal subtype.
Berserking (Ex): Once per day, whenever a troll takes damage, it may fly into a frenzy for 1 minute, gaining a +2 racial bonus to Constitution and Strength, but a -2 penalty to AC.
Da Voodoo Shuffle: Trolls gain the +4 racial bonus on Acrobatics checks to jump. Additionally they are always considered to have a running start when making Acrobatics checks to Jump
Regeneration (Ex): Trolls regain 1 hit point each round. Except for where noted here, regeneration is just like natural healing. Regeneration does not restore hit points lost from starvation, thirst, or suffocation, nor does it allow a troll to regrow lost body parts. Regeneration continues to function (even at negative hit points) until a member of this race dies, at which point the effects of regeneration immediately end.
Languages: Trolls begin play speaking Orcish and Zandali. Furthermore, trolls with high Intelligence scores can learn Common, Goblin, Taur-ahe, Thalassian.
